You’ll typically arrive in either Moshi or Arusha, Tanzania, and have a pre-trek briefing with your tour operator. This is a day for final preparations before your Kilimanjaro trek.

The trek begins at the Machame Gate (1,490 meters) and takes you through the rainforest zone to Machame Camp (2,980 meters). It’s a relatively moderate ascent on the first day.

You’ll continue your ascent through the rainforest and then into the heather and moorland zones. The day’s trek takes you to Shira Camp (3,840 meters).
